On June 21, 2023, the City of Barrie was set to vote to criminalize homelessness, by making it illegal to provide support (like food, water or shelter) to people experiencing homelessness in public places.

UPDATE: The City of Barrie has voted to not proceed with this by-law amendment. The Council has referred the proposed by-law back to staff to modernize the language relating to this in the by-laws.
