Support the Homelessness Prevention & Housing Benefit

An image of three different people in varying settings

Canada is facing a new wave of homelessness driven by the cost-of-living crisis.

Thousands of families are facing the impossible choice between putting food on the table and paying ever-increasing rent. Too many people are losing their homes. The situation for people who are already experiencing homelessness is getting worse too, as the prospect of finding an affordable place to call home becomes even harder to reach.

The tragedy we face is on the same scale as our largest natural disasters in history.

The fastest and most effective way to slow this wave of homelessness – and the only way - is by implementing a targeted housing benefit to help move people who are already experiencing homelessness into housing and stop those at risk of becoming homeless from losing their homes. Continuing to build affordable housing remains important, but we must meet this urgent crisis faster.

The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness has proposed a Homelessness Prevention and Housing Benefit to the federal government that would help up to 435,000 people, but we need to show politicians that people across Canada are demanding this benefit be implemented urgently, or they’ll continue to ignore the problem.

Will you send an email to your MP, the Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Minister of Finance and demand they support this new benefit?
