SEND A LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Canadians are worried  – more and more families find themselves locked out of the housing market and facing the prospect of a recession and lost employment. On November 4th, the federal government will release their first annual budget which will lay out their priorities for the next year. With the recent Build Canada Homes launch, the government has committed $1 billion for supportive housing, part of over $13 billion for affordable housing. This isn’t a coincidence, people all over the country have been taking action by signing their names on petitions and sending letters to our federal leaders to demand real action.  Build Canada Homes is a great first step, but the next step is making sure they deliver on their promises and take meaningful action in the upcoming federal budget to protect struggling Canadian families and those experiencing homelessness.

With Members of Parliament back in Ottawa, we need to keep the momentum going. As they're discussing the budget, they need to hear that voters are demanding bold action on housing and homelessness. Canadians need to see continuous efforts and a real commitment to end the crisis – for good.

If enough of us keep putting the pressure on, we can ensure that the government delivers on their commitments and that we can build a country where our full potential traces back to a stable and effective housing system that works for everyone.

Local media organizations can help you spread the word in your community. The more letters we send, the more that local Members of Parliament will hear about what is top of mind for the people that elected them, and it will emphasize how important this budget truly is.

Will you send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper or online news outlet to let them know that Canadians are counting on the government to prioritize housing and homelessness in Budget 2025?

We can do this – as long as we stand together.
