Call Your Local MP and Demand a Canada Housing Accord

Canada’s housing and homelessness crisis is surging, the result of a broken system. Governments are struggling to respond, working on the problem in their own ways without a way to ensure they’re rowing in the same direction.

The crisis is too big for any one government to tackle alone. To fix it, we need to get our governments working together to ensure people in every community have the housing, supports, and services they need to find a home and stay housed.

That’s where a Canada Housing Accord comes in.

A Canada Housing Accord is simple. It’s a coordinated plan to get federal, provincial and territorial governments working together on one shared goal: fix the housing and homelessness crisis. With a strong focus on supporting people in the greatest housing need, getting more affordable homes built, and ensuring supportive housing comes with provincial/territorial health and social services so people don’t cycle back into homelessness.

Members of Parliament pay attention to what local voters have to say – calls are logged, messages are recorded, and issues are raised in the House. When enough people speak up about the same priority, it moves from being a call into meetings with other MPs and part of big decisions.

That’s how change happens.

It only takes a few minutes. When enough of us make the call, it strengthens the case for how important a Canada Housing Accord is. With the National Housing Strategy agreements coming up for renewal, we need to redefine how governments work together and deliver the relief that Canadians need.

Call your local MP today and let them know that solving the housing crisis is possible through a Canada Housing Accord.

You don’t need to be a policy expert – it just takes a clear message to shape your MP’s priorities. To help make things easier, there is a draft script when you click to call – feel free to customize it! A few minutes from your day to shape action on housing and homelessness by:

  • Introducing yourself as someone who lives in your MP’s community
  • Saying that you support a Canada Housing Accord and share your personal story if you’d like (even a short sentence about why this matters to you can make a real impact)
  • Asking your MP to push for it
  • Requesting a response outlining their position
