We Need Government Collaboration on Housing Now

Canada’s housing system isn’t working the way it should. Too many people can’t find a safe and affordable place to live. Governments are working on housing, but they aren’t really working together – and that means that we're not making the most of critical investments to get our neighbours off the street and into warm homes.

Right now, the federal government and provinces don’t have a shared plan for how to solve the housing crisis and end homelessness. When governments aren’t on the same page, money doesn’t go as far, and people are left waiting for help.

That’s where a Canada Housing Accord comes in.

A Canada Housing Accord is a simple idea: governments working together under one clear plan. In a new agreement, the federal government and provinces and territories would set shared goals, decide who is responsible for what, and focus on solutions that will work for each community.

With a Canada Housing Accord, governments can move faster and housing dollars can be used more effectively. More affordable homes can be built and communities can get the support they need to move people out of homelessness into safe, stable housing.

Canadians deserve a housing system that works – and we need it now.

The current National Housing Strategy agreements are coming up for renewal. As we head into 2026, there is a real opportunity to reset how governments work together and make housing investments deliver the homes Canadians need.

If enough of us demand action, we can push the government to create a Canada Housing Accord and take meaningful action on the housing crisis.

Will you send a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Housing Minister, Finance Minister and your local MP to demand a Canada Housing Accord so we can solve the housing crisis in 2026?

If we stand together, nothing can get in our way.
